Prof. Masahiro Abo, M.D., Ph.D., is the Professor and Chairman of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at The Jikei University School of Medicine in Tokyo, Japan. He also serves as the 8th Chairperson of the Japanese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine. After graduating from The Jikei University School of Medicine, he completed his training at Jikei University Third Hospital and formerly worked as a researcher at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden. Prof. Abo is a leading expert in advanced neurorehabilitation. His extensive clinical research focuses on repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS), repetitive Peripheral Magnetic Stimulation (rPMS), and Botulinum Toxin therapy for stroke and spasticity. Notably, he established the protocol of utilizing fMRI-based brain functional imaging to precisely determine stimulation sites from the beginning for all types of aphasia. He has published extensively on magnetic stimulation, providing robust evidence from basic research to clinical rehabilitation medicine. Under his leadership, he advocates for the integration of medical treatment and physical activity in an aging society, championing the philosophy that "rest is a drug, walking is a panacea."
